1What can I find out?

Which Questions Does SQL Log Analyzer Answer?

Find your question below. SQL Log Analyzer turns a raw LDF file into a sortable list of transactions.

  • Who Changed This Table?Login names show beside every change.
  • Who Deleted These Records?Delete transactions list the table, the time and the query.
  • When Did the Change Happen?Every transaction carries its date and time.
  • Which Query Changed the Data?Query text shows beside every transaction.
  • Audit or Forensic Review DueInvestigators get login, time and table details without touching the live server.
  • Lost Records Need a RebuildExport chosen transactions to SQL Server, scripts or CSV and rebuild what changed.

MDF File Offline

Offline mode needs the MDF file. LDF files alone do not open.

Log Files Only

Dedicated log files open. Backups of LDF files do not.

Online Mode

Connect to a live SQL Server with a server name and credentials.

Check the Recovery Model First

Microsoft states that the transaction log records all transactions and the changes they make. Truncation then frees log space for reuse. Old records go with it.

Truncation happens after a checkpoint under the simple recovery model and after a log backup under the full model. Learn the details in the Microsoft guide to the SQL Server transaction log.

2What changes?

What Changes After You Open the Log?

Before

  • Nobody knows who changed the table
  • Deleted rows leave no visible trace
  • The LDF file stays unreadable

After

  • Login, time, table and query show per transaction
  • Filters narrow records by type and date
  • Records leave as a database, scripts or CSV

SQL Log Analyzer Questions and Answers

What is SQL Log Analyzer used for?

SQL Log Analyzer opens SQL Server LDF files and lists every transaction with its login name, time, table and query. Export the records as a new database, SQL scripts or CSV files.

Can Log Analyzer show who changed a table?

Yes. Login names show beside every insert, update and delete transaction.

Does Log Analyzer need SQL Server installed?

Not for analysis. Exporting to a database needs a SQL Server environment.

Can Log Analyzer open an LDF file without its MDF file?

No. Offline mode needs the matching MDF file to learn the database schema. Online mode connects to a live server instead.

How do online and offline mode differ?

Online mode connects to a live SQL Server with a server name and credentials. Offline mode loads the LDF and MDF files from your drive.

Can Log Analyzer open LDF backup files?

No. Dedicated log files open. Backups of LDF files do not.

Which operations does Log Analyzer list?

Insert, update and delete transactions appear with their table, date, time and query. Filters narrow the list before you export.

Why are old transactions missing from my log?

SQL Server truncates the log to reuse space. Microsoft states that truncation happens after a checkpoint under the simple recovery model and after a log backup under the full model. Truncated records no longer sit in the file.

What can the free demo of SQL Log Analyzer do?

Demo mode previews all tables with 50 records per table for 7 days. Filters and every export need the full version.

Which SQL Server versions work with SQL Log Analyzer?

Log files from SQL Server 2025, 2022, 2019, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008 R2, 2008, 2005 and 2000 work. Installation works on Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 or Windows Server 2025 down to 2008.

How much does SQL Log Analyzer cost?

One machine costs $99 per month. Six months cost $594 and one year costs $1,188 per machine. Orders cover 1 to 500 machines.
